George Clooney

For a while now, the idea of making a mini coat of arms featuring George Clooney has been on my mind. I've no idea why. Im actually quite pleased with the finished piece. I've completely ripped off Mr Bingo's style for this, or at least tried to. If you haven't seen his work, its very good you know. His website is www.mr-bingo.org.uk

Racists hate t shirts as well

A couple of weeks ago i went down to the E.D.L march hoping there would be some very un p.c t-shirts for my book, however there were none. Everyone either had their windbreakers done up, or were looking dazzling in their Le Coq Sportif polos. Actually , even if there were a couple bopping around in racist t-shirts, I probably would have been too scared to ask; it looked more like a prison break then any kind of protest. All in all, a pretty pointless exercise.

I decided to pop down the road to the anti E.D.L march, but still no luck. I was really looking for shirts which when people talked about them, I would be able to get a sense of their views at the same time.

Faces

Having nothing to do at four o clock in the morning inspired me to start drawing people with odd faces. This is in no way malicious, it is simply a celebration of their abnormal features. In case you can't tell who they are, we have a young Gordon Brown, Cherie Blair and Anne Widdecombe. For me, the clear winner is Cherie and her massive mouth.

Massive t-shirt post

Amy

Why?
Because i liked it, it was cheap.

Where?
Ryan Vintage, £15

Jonnie

Because it was cheap, and i could alter it without ruining my bank account.

It was £2 from Primark, it was in a Primark sale.

Jason

I didn't buy this t-shirt, it was a present.

I think it says that... the colour is quite easy going which portrays me.

Ollie

Because it looked good. Vanity!

H&M, I think maybe about 6 or 7 quid.

Gareth

Because i like that bit on the back there.

It was £20-£25, i think i got it from Exit in Manchester.

Sogol

I needed something smart to wear, cause all my other stuff is, like, not very samrt.

H&M, it was £4.99

James

I got given it.

Tom

Because i like the band. They suck live, but they're good on CD.

It was from the merch man, and it was really expensive like £16.

Joel Dodd

I read alot of comic books

£15, from the Travelling Man

Lana

Because it was big and comfy.

About £2 from Primark

Atta

I didn't buy it. It was a friends and i took it.

Rob

I was given it, given it as a present.

Erm, i don't know. I quite like the colours and the design around the neck. It has grafitti on, which isn't really me, but it has swearing on, and you can't quite read it, but i don't know if it says anything about me.

Emma

I don't really know, i want to look like Dennis the Menace.

It was from Blue Banana, when i was 14.

Dan

Because it's colourful, different, and has a zombie on it

From New Look, it was £5.

Jack

Erm, i liked the simple the design of it, and i like the music label as well.

It was £16.99, where was it from? Somewhere in London, a music shop in London.

Will

I'm into good quality design. It's not about the design, its because it's Henry Lloyd. I prefer expensive clothing. Why do people buy clothes from charity shops? It's tacky and poor quality. I'm not saying i'm a chav, I'm not a chav!

Got it from Evqss, £30.

Jenny

Because i like the colour, and i like the pink on it, thats why i chose it, and it was cheap.

It was £15 and it was from a skate shop called Scene in Preston, at home.

David

I like Black Flag. I like the artist who did the t-shirt as well.

Got it online, corpseclothing.com, and it were £17.

Richard

My mother bought me it.

Well, i normally wear lighter coloured ones, but darker ones make you look slimmer , and i've not got much weight on me. Since i turned 18 i went from a 28 to a 32.

William

I just like it, its may favourite shirt.

It was a birthday present.

Rosie

It sort of personifies how i'm feeling today, dead.

It was £15, from a gig, Alexisonfire!

Jonny

Because the money, like profit, went to getting fair wage for
immigrants.

American Apparell.

Alex

Because it has an A on, and my name is Alex.

American Apparrell, £15.

Sarah

Because it was £5 in the sale and i needed a new t-shirt, and it has a bat wing.

Topshop.

Sue

"You're not doing survalliance are you, like, Police survalliance?"

Big Leeds supporter.

Dunno, always have been.

£40, from the club shop.

Wayne

I like it, and the writing.

Manchester M.E.N, £20.

Initially i was reluctant to photograph people that i already knew for the book, but i had no option, as in the town centre, i was only managing to photograph 4 people per day, at the most, and ideally i needed 66 images. I'm actually starting to regret choosing a topic, which i had to rely on whether on not people would allow me to photograph them.

I feel that the photographs of friends are generally weaker that those taken of strangers. When photographing strangers, i got the impression that they were slightly uncomfortable, whilst people i already knew, knew about the project and what i was doing, some asking for their photograph to be retaken. Again, when talking to people on the street, i was able to cover a much wider selection of people, however, friends are generally all students, and i didn't want the book to become "students that wear t shirts in Leeds."

I attempted to use alternative methods of documenting people's responses; the recorder on my phone. However, it looked unprofessional after I'd told people that i was making a book, and they were clearly uncomfortable speaking into it, meaning they weren't as chatty. Because of this i continued to use a pen and notepad.

The Invitation

I enjoy this very much, I can't stop re-reading it.
